Hi guys... :) [25 Oct 2008|12:04pm]
[ mood | excited ]

Hi guys, Just wanted to touch base with you all since I only visit here one month per year for NaNo. Good Luck to everyone doing NaNo 08. It will be fun. We can do it! I reckon all NaNo journals should be shoved at people who are in need of encouragement. I always get amazed at the overwhelming level of enthusiasm and fresh possibilities that NaNo can give to people. Myself included! I read back at these posts and just get sooo excited about the feeling and the energy I get during Novembers. It's a good feeling. Healthy? yeh... if you don't count the fatigue :).

And for all those who made 50K in 2007, how lucky are we?!?!?! We get to have our manuscript published for free!!! So.... I'm going to try to finish this story The Hou Trail this NaNo08 and then submit my manuscript to that Amazon thing NaNoWriMo was talking about (you would have gotten an email about it...) and smile widely at my one-off printed copy of my story. I'm thinking.... maybe I should leave it unedited so that I can laugh at myself everytime I open the book.... I love unedited NaNos! hehehehe. especially the scenes written on the final lap of the race. Read mine... they are terrible but somewhat entertaining----a rare (yearly?) glimpse of what goes on in someone's mind when the tough gets going and you have no choice but to go! go! GO! Ah, imaginations. ^_^

1 week to go!

PS: This LJ is Friends-Locked. If you want to see my progress during November (as well as how I went in the previous NaNos), please feel free to add me, and I'll add you back! Thanks.

See you next NaNo!

The Hou Trail continued... [03 Nov 2007|01:17am]
I've decided to continue THE HOU TRAIL from NaNo2006. It would probably be awesome to finally finish a chaptered story. I spent Nov 1 finding out the ending and what exactly happens with the characters and some rules of the world and the theme and main message that the MC learns. I'm not sure if it will be a boring theme, a typical theme... But it will be set in a fantastical world so there's the difference... hrm

I'll edit this post once I've got a one sentence summary for it. I reckon once I have that, the story will go smoothly. It'll be an anchor point, see? for when I stray from the point.

PS. I'm still going to write Rouge and Powder. But it's still under-developed, so it will have to wait till next time. I want to finish The Hou Trail first and edit it and put it out there to have beta-ed and reviewed (at rateyourwriting.com) before I seriously start anything else.

The next posts will be friends-locked so if you'd like to read my NaNo 2007, add me and I'll add you.

It's time again.... NaNoWriMo 2007 [31 Oct 2007|09:55pm]
Hey who would've thought it's that time of year again. Well I know I only realised it was NaNo month today or yesterday. Nov 1 starts this midnight.... I'll try to start something then... but maybe not.... I am trying to get my head around the story I want to write. I have about 3 going in my head. All I've been sitting on for years, a few notes here and there, some characterisation but always waiting for NaNo to come to have a reason to finally sit down and write them.

I WAS going to do, AM WAS AM..... WAS....? going to do "Rouge and Powder" a story of one who wants to join the performing arts and one who wants to leave it. Note: this is Fantasy. Most of my stuff are fantasy. Rouge and Powder is about the travelling performers and its admirers and blood and bone and magic.

hrm I really want to write this, but it's still only half formed and I don't know the real plot of these characters. There should be one so they don't go around for 50,000 words angsting about their feelings and pain and running. hrm.... What's their point?

After reading some of NaNo2006's The Hou Trail while clearing out the cobwebs in this area, I would really like to continue it and see how Theodora fares and what she will discover and where she will go?..... But the problem again is----IS THERE A POINT to her adventures? What's her MAIN PLOT? What's MY main plot for this? eeeh. I don't know yet. bah.

hrm I need to go think. But yeh! Here it is again! NaNoWriMo 2007 wooooh....! ^_^

PS. Hi everyone I haven't talked to in while, I'm still here. I hope you are too. xx

We begin [01 Nov 2006|11:20pm]
Man... 11:11pm on 1/11/2006...

I haven't written a thing yet... I'm tired now... I was inspired by Muse's Hysteria earlier this afternoon, but now I can only vaguely grasp it. It could be because I don't really have a 'meaningful' plot yet that I'm stalling...

11:15pm... I had several start-up sentences in my head this morning... I'm not sure where to start now to get the max effect I want. I'm not sure the style I want to write it in... upbeat or mopey? I dunno.

11:16pm... I should really write something so I could save the doc on 1st Nov. I can always start it a different way tomorrow if it doesn't sound right... I've been like this with other NaNos anyway. Most important thing for me this year is finishing the story, not only finishing 50K though that's probably slightly more important given the way of the event.

11:19pm... better go. try to write something. Maybe I'll get a burst tomorrow.

Good Luck everyone!

Oh Oh! It's here again! [25 Oct 2006|08:18pm]
[ mood | busy ]

First: Yah! Almost NaNo again! :D

Second: OK. I don't think I'll do Istle this NaNo. : ((((
(heh, WHY didn't I just say I'm not doing it, instead of I don't THINK I'm doing it? hehe)

(fact is, I love Istle's world and the characters there. I like their stories and background. Now, if only I can put it all together effectively. I guess it'll be one of those stories that I will have to take care of when I've grown as a writer a bit more).

SO, I've been thinking of doing the Jumanji-like story I've been looking into for the past year.
(I just say Jumanji becuase it's the closest thing I could compare it to without describing my idea. It involves a house and another world within the house. So that's the similarity.)

I've been dazing out on the bus and while walking to and from my business course. Trying to form a plot out of the world and characters.

Onto other things... I want to renovate this NaNo LJ. nudge wink hint about my story hint. OK ok it involves the renovation of a house. there.

Am I getting excited?
I think I just want to get away from my busy schedule now and just immerse myself in NaNo, which is very ironic. Aah, but is this not what NaNo's all about? facepalm*

And now for the final winning words... *grin*

Lunch was served at around midday and I ate my meal with the jestrels as Thern and Jesthen stilol spoke on about their childehood adventures and what they can remember of Straw as young children do. A lot of their descriptions were like a child’s stories of a new place they had been to and so the descriptions were a little more imagined than it was real. I laughed at their accounts as Bird’s eyes grew like saucers, intrigued and excited. He kept looking ahead of us to the Straw lands beyond the other edge of the straw Sea.

it has begun! (the plotting ;) [25 Oct 2005|11:12pm]
[ mood | contemplative ]

Well, I deliberately left the planning and plotting for the week before NaNoWriMo. I read in No Plot? No Problem! that that's what was recommended to avoid burn-outs or boredom when the time comes to actually write it.

I should really have read what I have already written weeks ago, but I only started today and actually got a bit worried that I had not started planning yet. BUT once I started reading, I started to get excited again and while I was at work doing my job, I thought about my plot and had my notebook beside me to write things down as they came up.

Now I'm grateful I didn't start earlier like what I've seen others have done because if I came up with this plot weeks before, I think I would have been too frustrated trying NOT to write it already. And the hint of spontaneity and a bit of rushed panic in my plotting and planning now is EXACTLY what I need for this story's voice.

I think that if I planned too much with this raw outline it would lose its certain effect. That effect that some have mentioned to me -- that they had no clue what the story was about but as soon as they started reading it, it just took them away, the story rolling along, catching them. That's really cool to hear :))). I need to keep it that way. But also make sure that there is in fact a story to this.

That's my biggest concern right now which I haven't got yet: the ending, the sense of fulfillment the reader SHOULD get when they have finished the story. hrm.

IN TERMS OF plot notes: I have several scenes outlined already. I try to keep it as vague as possible because I tend not to follow the detailed ones when I actually write it. Keeping it vague leaves more room for my imagination to move and change and improvise. I feel less restrained even if my original idea is exactly what is written down.

The downside to keeping it vague though, is sometimes I can forget about a scene I've discovered and that's a bummer if it was a good scene. Ah well, people say that if it was good enough, it will always be remembered. right? ;)

Here we go again! (NaNoWriMo 2005) [10 Oct 2005|12:41am]
[ mood | yay ]

Well, I've reactivated my account at nanowrimo.org and have dusted off this place *cough* ^^

Can't wait! I'll be writing the 2nd half of my Istle story (scroll down to see my progress last NaNo). I'd really love to finish it. But I am still open to changing my mind last minute and starting a totally new story! I love NaNoWriMo most because of the spontaneity and the rush of being blank and having to come up with the most ridiculous ideas because you HAVE to get to 50K no matter what! Yeh, I love that most. Who knows, perhaps I might be able to finish Istle and then start another. Well, I'm not so solid on these things. I plan not to. I'm leaving it up in the air until November, see where it takes me then. :D

PS: The story will be Friends-Locked, so if you want to see my descent to madness progress please comment and I'll add you. If you are a NaNo writer too, please let me know! I'll keep an eye on yours too :)

Istle [30 Nov 2004|11:59pm]
[ mood | bittersweet ]

Zokutou word meterZokutou word meter
45,321 / 50,000

Title: Istle

Words: 45,321 ( by 30 November 2004, 23:59:59 EST )
Genre: Mild Fantasy
First time NaNo Writer 2004

I am still going to finish the story. I will be applying the same rules and techniques I used to finish the story. I can honestly say that I am, of course, disappointed (sigh) for being so close to the Finish Line, that all I truly needed was TWO MORE HOURS DAMMIT! well... bugger that.

I did write all of 45,321 (and pens down...) words in less than a month because I skipped practically half the days of November, which I shouldn't do next year because now I know better!
And no! I didn't plan to finish at those numbers. But I did end what I had so far in a nice reminiscent sort of way for the sake of the whole NaNo experience.
It is my first original story. So I keep these things in mind. sigh

EDIT dec 1: And surprisingly, yes, I do like my story. That's a good thing. :)
EDIT dec 1 #2: but what's up with these stingy eyes? ;P aw i'm just being a brat. aaaah

EDIT dec 1 #3:

Day: Nov 29, 30
Words in these sessions: 45,321 – 24,824 = you do the math. ouch!

I had a 4 hour sleep in the middle of writing that amount. I just dropped to my side and closed my eyes and then I awoke and said, "Ack! My four hours!" and then I wrote some more, needing 2 hours more to make 50K. Perhaps I should have invested in a third alarm clock, plastered to my face.

Ist [01 Nov 2004|12:07am]
On the night of Fairfall, Ist has no choice but to run from town. Ist meets traveling jestrels and a number of other travelers. Ist doesn't know where they are headed. Neither do the jestrels. But they all follow anyway. Adventure, mild fantasy, some magic if required, and perhaps a little guessing game in the works! (Note: the plot is rather patchy. Watch me triumph! *optimistic* :))
